You don't need to be an expert or have a heated greenhouse to enjoy these exotic blooms - buying and growing orchids is easier than ever, discovers Adrian Bishop.
In the following articles we will looking in detail at vanda orchids, moth orchids (phalaenopsis) and cymbidiums. This article focuses on Moth Orchids.

Moth Orchids are the ones you are most likely to come across, and there is a wide range of colours and sizes available. They are easy to grow and you can buy them in flower all year round; the blooms last a long time and there is no particular rest period.

Where to grow:
Moth orchids are happy in a living room, where they can easily cope with central heating and low light levels.

Growing tips:
Although they cope with the heat of modern rooms, they do like high humidity so mist with water regularly. Stake the flower spike with a cane before the blooms open - you can buy packs of orchid clips for around 10p each.

Buying tips:
You should have plenty of choice, and if space is limited look for the miniature hybrids.
