I have several hebes which have recently flowered.  After flowering should the fading flower be cut back, as there seems to be a lot of bare stem at the bottom of the plant

Hi Yvonne,

Some Hebes respond well to being cut back hard to encourage growth from the base and others don't. If you can see little new shoots low down, then you can cut back to those. To be on the safe side, you could just try cutting some of the stems down, rather than all of them, just in case it doesn't shoot again. Then at least you won't lose the whole plant.

I have the same problem as Yvonne, my hebe has bare stems low down but has spread out , do you cut back after flowers have died or do you wait until autumn.
